Beerpong :: essays papers
Beerpong Beer pong is one of the most popular drinking games known to collegiate students across the country. This game is so often played in college life that most of the time, rules cannot be agreed upon because there are so many different versions. Everyone who plays the game knows a different set of rules, based upon what they had previously been taught. This paper will discuss not only how to play the game, but popular variations that I have come across while doing extensive and grueling research for this paper as well. In order to play beer pong, there are essential items you must have. First, you will need a Ping-Pong table, but any table around the same length will do. Then you will need twelve, sixteen-ounce cups, preferably the red ones that are frequently used at parties, as well as two Ping-Pong balls. Two additional cups filled with water will be useful to clean the balls after they hit the floor. However, this is an optional hygienic step not necessary to play the game, but one that is recommended. Oh, not to mention, the beer. I would suggest that there is a lot readily available, because it is common to go through it quickly in this game. After all of the necessary items are gathered, it is time to set up the game. First, pick two teams, made up of either one or two people. There should be even teams, but Canadian doubles are acceptable. A Canadian double is a team of two, verses a team of one. Then each team should take six cups and set them up in pyramid form on the far ends of the table making sure that the rims of the cups are touching each other. Once the cups are set, they should be filled with beer. A lite, cheap beer is probably the best due to the fact that it is economical and it will go down easier. In the version that Iââ¬â¢m most familiar with, there are two full beers in each set of six cups, and you can fill these cups however you want. For example, if you wanted, you could put all the beer in the back three cups and very little in the front three. The front three are easier to hit, because they are closer to the person shooting, so if you put less beer in them, it would make the game harder for you r opponent.

The Different Parenting Styles - 1024 Words
Parenting styles have been described as the collection of parentsââ¬â¢ behaviors which create an atmosphere of parent-child interaction across situation (Mize and Petit, 1997). Darling and Steinberg (1993) defined parenting style as ââ¬Å"a constellation of attitudes toward the child that are communicated to the child and that, taken together, create an emotional climate in which the parentsââ¬â¢ behaviors have expressed.â⬠Despite these challenges, researchers have uncovered convincing links between parenting styles and the effects these styles have on children. There are different styles of parenting: authoritative, authoritarian and permissive. Parents who use an authoritarian style are often very demanding, rigid, and punitive. They expect absoluteâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦According to one observer, permissive kids (and their patents) ate downright annoying: I never expected prissy public behavior at a clothing spew for toddlers, but am astounding number of preschool-she children were pulling clothes off the hangers and onto the floor while their mothers smiles absently at them (Klein, 2006:B11). Instead of setting boundaries, permissive patents are indulgent. They dont built or tyrannize their children, but adolescents rapacious in lenient households ate Osteen less mature, now irresponsible, and less able to assume leadership positions in adulthood. They are also more likely to be rebellious and impulsive and to have behavior problems such as figuring and losing their temper (Wolfradt et al., 2003; Aunola and Nurmi, 2005). Permissive parents are like the ââ¬Å"fun parentsâ⬠they let their children run around freely and wild. From looking in on someone who was raised from a permissive parent, the child has no set goals in life. Most children like these are regularly law breakers. Most of these kids do that because they know that their parents will either get them out of trouble with no questions asked. The authoritative, authoritarian and permissive parenting style varies between culture and people. Most people use the authoritative parenting style to raise their children without being too strict or too uninvolved. A grotesque discovery Free Essays
The shift seemed to drag on that night, my coffee had gone stale and there was nothing to amuse me apart from a meagre cluster of people who liked to congregate outside the doors, for light I assumed. Unnoticed to anyone but me the lady of the night cascaded her lean body down the grand staircase towards my direction. Dressed in a crumpled black garment and scuffed well worn shoes she fluttered her weary eyes and began to smile as she got closer. We will write a custom essay sample on A grotesque discovery or any similar topic only for you Order Now I tried to speak as little as possible to her as I didnââ¬â¢t want to get a reputation speaking to scarlet women. Justifying her reasons for being in the hotel I nodded my head gave her a sympathetic look back. She mentioned that I should go and check the room that she had attended and then proudly began to make her way to the door, drained yet glad to be leaving the hotel doors. I decided to take the ladyââ¬â¢s advice and made my way up the never ending staircase to the fifth floor. Out of breath and now very thirsty I approached the door with its shinny handle apprehensive as to what was waiting for me. I twisted the door handle and commenced into the room. The first thing that hit me was the smell. Fragrances of menââ¬â¢s aftershave and womenââ¬â¢s cheap perfume mixed with stale smoke and sweat. The room was obscure; the lighting was nothing but a tiny ray of light beaming through a small parting in the curtain. My hand slid up the wall to find the switch I turned it on but to my amazement there wasnââ¬â¢t as much mess as what I had anticipated. The bed sheets where still warm and looked like they had been slept in or maybe something more. As my eyes made there way round the room I noticed the various cups and saucers, beer cans, half empty wine bottles, cigarette butts and discarded food on trays. These people had no regard for what state they kept the room in as long as they were having a good time. I looked down at my feet only to find numerous stains, food trodden into the carpet and ash scattered throughout. There were draws half open with abandoned socks crumpled up and left; the wardrobe door fully open but bare with only a scatter of coat hangers on the rail. My attention was distracted from the sate of the room by the persistent drip of water I herd coming from the bath room. On entry the bath room smelt clean and fresh with citrus smells in the air, the taps where still shining and had there bright silver ping. The floor was wet and wasnââ¬â¢t getting any dryer, a simple toilet blockage was all that was wrong with the room, or at least I thought. I strolled back into the bedroom where the dirty smell hit me again and grabbed a discarded coat hanger and made my way back into the bathroom. I placed one of the crisp white towels down onto the floor so I could kneel and bent the coat hanger into a hook shape and placed the bin bag on my hand so I could unblock the toilet. At first nothing but the feeling of cold water and plastic against my bare skin, then I felt that I had burst something soft. To my amazement what looked like blood started to disperse from the bottom of the toilet, the smell of iron soon filled my nostrils; it was definitely blood. My heart raced and I started to sweat and panic what could it have been I asked my self. Nothing could have prepared me for what I pulled out of the toilet, A Human Heart! I lifted it up and took a good glance at it making sure that I wasnââ¬â¢t seeing things. It didnââ¬â¢t look as though it had been there for very long as it was still a peachy colour. A joke maybe, I was half expecting hear a laugh from behind me but none came. I stood up still with the thing in my hand, my stomach churned and my hands jerked. I took a nervous glance around bathroom, at this point the bathroom didnââ¬â¢t look so clean, and I didnââ¬â¢t feel it either. I paced to the main door passing through the various smells and ruffled bed sheets to take a look out of door into the hall way, it was clear so I ran. I panicked, what was I doing? A stocky black man holding a human heart in a plastic bag running with a guilty look; didnââ¬â¢t look so good in my eyes. Thoughts where racing through my head, whoââ¬â¢s heart was this and why was it there. I felt as though my own heart was in my mouth, I could almost hear the thud echo in the elevator. Someone had been killed and there must be a body around some where. I walked through to the staff rooms to tell my manager of my discovery. Slickly dresses with a sharp suit and smile he greeted me and sat me down in the office. I began to tell him what I had found; I wiped the nervous sweat off my forehead and tried to relax so that he could understand what I was trying to say. It was strange but he had no reaction on his face and all that he could mutter to me was ââ¬Å"what goes on in a hotel rooms, stays in a hotel roomâ⬠like this was a regular occurrence. I stopped to think for a moment but demanded that legal action should be take, my mangers slick smile soon turn into a cold look, knowing full well I was an illegal immigrant he dialled 999 and passed the phone over to me, expecting me to say what I had discovered. I didnââ¬â¢t want to risk my life and get sent back to my own country for the sake of this so I put the phone down and he knew that I would do this. I leaped out of my seat in rage my height towering over him but his weight over shadowing me. His eyes met mine and he raised one eyebrow as though he was slightly amused by my actions. I was in a rampage and chucked is prized mangers desk with his tacky photo frame and souvenirs to the other end of the room, I soon got his full attention. I felt his clammy hands around my neck, stubby, fingers stabbing into my cheek and the words how dare you ringing in my ear. I tired to shove him off me but his over sized gut was restraining me. I felt his harsh breath on ma face as he spoke. He knew full well of my situation in this country and could think of nothing better to say than ââ¬Å"I could have you deported for this!â⬠His sweaty double chinned face was all I could see as I didnââ¬â¢t want to make eye contact with his beady eyes. I straighten my suit out as did he when he backed away. He picked the bag up with the heart visible through it and chucked it down bin shoot like it was an ordinary piece of rubbish . My heart sank and I felt like I had failed the non existent person and that I had done wrong in the eyes of the law. If I was to stay in this country I would have to keep the guilt of a death on my shoulders and live a silenced life, but thatââ¬â¢s the price I will have to pay. I came to England thinking I was going to be starting a better life, but its not going as well as Iââ¬â¢d anticipated. His smoke stained teeth grinned as I was inhaling second hand smoke from the fumes of his cheap cigar. ââ¬Å"You no where there door hisâ⬠, his face so close to mine I could see the trickles of sweat on fore head. He had shoved me out of his office like he shoved the heart down that shoot, relentlessly. He obviously didnââ¬â¢t care as long as his greed for power and money was being met and nothing bad was bothering him. I pondered for a moment thinking what I should do next, but what could I do? Older Adults Perspectives on Successful Aging
Question: Describe about the Older Adults Perspectives on Successful Aging? Answer: Introduction This paper reviews the article The Relationship between Attitudes to Aging and Physical and Mental Health in Older Adults (Judd et al., 2012). This research takes a sample of older adults and tries to investigate the how attitude towards aging effects mental as well as physical health in older adults. The aim of this research paper is to establish that positive attitude towards aging leads to good health, mental as well as physical in elderly people. The saying you are as old as you feel is not just a saying but is reality. Empirical Study on Positive Attitude Towards aging Research has shown that positive attitude promotes recovery from various disabilities. Positive attitude towards aging in elderly people has the effect of reducing the cardiovascular response to strain, it enhances self efficacy and also increases healthy behaviors. (Jeste, Reichstadt, Sengupta, Depp Palinkas, 2010) The article in question aims to promote healthy as well as successful aging. This research shows that elderly people with positive age stereotypes have the potential to recover fully from disabilities as compared to having negative age stereotypes. There is said to be direct relationship between positive attitude towards aging and well being I have conducted my research by interviewing 10 adults over the age of sixty. Participants belonged to retirement communities. Data was collected within the period May and November of 2014. The interview has been conducted by mailing the participants a questionnaire. The overall attitude towards aging in my research was positive. Maximum of the participants scored within positive range. The Participants showed very high satisfaction towards life. One of the prime purposes of my research was to find out whether attitude toward aging would make a contribution towards well being. Participants who had a partner reported more positive attitude towards aging as compared to those who were single. Those with good financial status showed more positive attitude towards aging, they also seemed to be more satisfied with life. As compared to retired and unemployed individuals employed individuals showed more positive attitude to aging. Thus we can say that older peoples attitude towards aging has a direct influence on their psychological well being. Earlier researches had shown that beliefs towards aging which are positive lead one to feel young whereas negative beliefs makes one feel older. In a nutshell people who feel old go through lower self esteem, lower satisfaction of life, and high strain at work as compared to those who feel younger. Conclusion This empirical research helps us in understanding individuals towards their own aging and influence of positive attitude to well being. The study also revealed that status of income has direct relation with good health and satisfaction of life. Since our society is aging promoting successful aging has become very important. Those who possess positive attitude towards aging may lead healthier life but it is dependent on several other factors also which we have discussed earlier. One of the ways in which successful aging may be promoted is by overcoming negative attitude towards aging by making changes at societal as well as individual level.
